Views Of Egypt
Views Of Egypt is a collection of slides taken in Egypt by Aisha Ali during the 1970s and 1980s.
The photos presented will be accompanied by an informal lecture which briefly covers the early history of Middle Eastern dance and then concentrates on pictures from various sections of Cairo and Upper Egypt.
The presentation includes photos of the well known Awalam, Nezla Al Adel, a public Zar ritual from the Abu Saoud district, whirling derwish performing the Tanoura near Al Azhar in the old city of Cairo, as well as gypsy singers at a mouled El Nebbi (celebration of the prophet's birthday) in Cairo.
Aisha will give details of her travel experiences through lower and upper Egypt which will feature interesting background information on the Banat Maazin and other gypsy and Ghawazee performers.
