Delilah talks about her deep inspired call from another time and shares some of her favorite parts. These dances Delilah has created over the years involve focused attention and stylized, symbolic, hand and arm work and soul commitment.

Saturday April 24: Power Belly Dancing with Weight Belts.

(As seen on her online-class, visit her web site for more information)

Power Belly is a dynamic approach to belly dance that offers the dancer a sweaty workout, an ecstatic feeling of dancing together without much memorized choreography. It improves health, energy, muscle tone and stamina.  You do not have to have a weight belt to gain teacher level skills out of this class. Delilah will demonstrate the techniques and theory behind this revolutionary innovation she has been cultivating in classes for 8 years. She guides you through the dance using descriptive imagery that takes you to different levels. EQUIPMENT? It is not necessary for this workshop but if you want you can order a weight belt ahead of time if you want to use one in class. Obviously, she can’t carry many on an airplane (average 10-12 pounds each) And because it’s US to Canada earlier is best! Order through www.visionarydance.com. Say IBBC and we will discount your order and try to combine shipping. We repeat; weight belts are not essential for this class.

Sera Solstice

Friday April 23: Pop n' Lock Artistry:

The isolations of the modern Bellydancer often incorporate pop n' lock movements that have crossed over from Hip Hop Dance. This workshop explores ways to integrate the look, feel, and specific techniques of pop'n lock movements, but from the sublime and sensual execution of the Bellydancer. Dancers will learn a challenging sequence of pops and locks that assist each dancer in developing the muscle control needed for successful execution of Pops n' locks. Dancers will learn how to frame smaller isolations with other parts of the body, how to direct energy of muscle contractions through the body quickly, how to maintain and finesse power within the body and movement. Overall, the control required to execute this choreography sequence will inevitably elevate the dancers ability to isolate with greater ease, control, confidence, and grace.

 Saturday April 24: Solar Movement:

An in-depth journey into the powerful expression of Sera's Solar Movement vocabulary.  Solar movement is focused on expansive, travelling, fast, deep bellydance movement.  Hard-driving combinations develop strength, stamina, grace through quick weight-changes, and clarity of movement.  Dancers activate inner-force, balancing trust in the body, and trust in the self to move confidently in dance and in the world.

She will teach the similarities and differences in each dance, talk about costuming, give some background of each dance   and teach some sequences for each style.

Saturday April 24: Introduction to the Amazigh-Berber dances with the focus on the 'Abdaoui fertility dance of the Aures Mountains

The Maghreb (North Africa) has always been a crossroad of cultures, a gate between the West and the East, the North and the South - Where Africa meets the Orient . In Maghrebi countries music and dance are associated partly with Middle Eastern culture (Arabic and Turkish) as well as Arabo-Andalusian elements of Medieval Spain ,  and partly with Amazigh and African roots

The dance is both a public and a personal expression, rich in symbolic dimensions that deal with universal constants in nature, fertility of Mother Earth and the communication between the Earthy and the Divine.
In Amazigh regions women’s singing accompanies any kind of work, such as the harvest. Festivals provide the opportunity to see dances as a Unity. Traditional Amazigh dances are mostly ritual dances. Originally they were a magical act, in order to obtain the fertility of Mother Earth or to ask for the rain in case of the drought. The worshiping of a Divinity or a spirit of Nature was used in order to gain its protection.
